Today, we feast 🍴: Sanpoutei Ramen 🍜

With a almost bar like ambience as well as a almost one hour waitline, today, we feast at Sanpoutei Ramen.

📍350 Orchard Rd, #B1-04/05, Singapore 238868

📍253 Holland Ave, Singapore 278982

WHAT IS SANPOUTEI RAMEN ❓

Sanpoutei ramen is a Japanese ramen store specialising in handmade noodles, their shoyu ramen as well as their bowl (if you want to learn more, I've added the link below). Seeing that they were founded from Niigata, which is close to the shore, some of their dishes contains seafood elements as well, such as their sardine noodle line.

FIRST IMPRESSION ☝

Expect to wait for at least an hour before you are even able to get a seat. If I'm not wrong, they do not take reservations, so come early. There are seats outside of the restaurant, but if you come during the lunch crowd, good luck🍀.

When you first walk in, you will see a shelf of sake. The lighting was very dim, but not so dark to the point you will trip and bump into a server holding a bowl of ramen. The place felt a tiny bit cramped just because of the way the seats are arranged. When you get to your table, be prepared for the biggest shock of your life - no qr codes 🎉. The restaurant really said screw technology.

PRICE 💸

Nikumori Spicy-Rich Miso Ramen with flavored soft-boiled Egg: $18.00

Salmon Onigiraizu: $5.00

TASTE 😋

Firstly, the salmon onigiraizu🍙. I was expecting the onigiraizu to be quite basic, but NO. It looked very simple on first look, but the taste was so unexpected. You can taste the literal freshness of the salmon🌊, like I don't really eat fish, but this is fishy in a very good way. The cucumber gave it the extra crunch and freshness that it was lacking. Don't expect basic convenience store onigiri, eat it as a new dish.

Next, the Nikumori Spicy-Rich Miso Ramen with flavored soft-boiled Egg. For its given price point, there were a lot of ingredients packed into the bowl. Some of these includes bean sprouts, onions and thinly sliced pork belly. When you smell it for the first time👃, the flavour of the soup has a potent chicken scent🐔. On first sip, the flavours were all so complex. The broth was crazy rich, all thanks to the miso and chicken combination. The way the spice was involved wasn't the way I expected it to be. It isn't a spice that is right smack into your face, but it was a buildable kind in a pleasant way. I found that the spiciness of the broth actually complemented the richness of the broth very well. And let me get started on the noodles. It was springy, but does not have a alkaline after taste. One spoonful of the noodles, with the meat and the vegetables - heaven👼.

MY TWO CENTS 🪙🪙

Although the wait line was monstrous, my verdict is that it is worth the wait👍. Given the price point and the authenticity of the dishes provided, I find that it truly is a bang for your buck. This restaurant is good if you are dining alone or with a small group of people, however I wouldn't recommend if you have larger groups of people. If you are a light eater, I would suggest sharing a bowl of ramen because it is quite huge. But there are also other options that you can choose from such as their donburi, which comes in 2 portion sizes. Remember, these are my two cents, you do you 👌

And times up, that's all for today, bye bye 👋
