Today, we feast 🍴: Lola's Cafe
If you are a regular cafe hopper🐇 here in Singapore, the name Lola's should ring a bell. Today, we will be feasting on some of the dishes that you can get your hands on in Lola's.
📍5 Simon Rd, Singapore 545893 (Hougang location)
📍48 Lor Mambong, Singapore 277699 (Holland Village location)
FIRST IMPRESSION ☝
The entire aesthetic of Lola's to me was giving clean girl aesthetic. Literally, if brandy melville had a restaurant, that would probably be Lola's. I'm not trashing it, but it is actually very nice. Something that I've noticed when it comes to cafes' in Singapore is that it is the same aesthetic, but in different fonts.
TASTE 😋
Shakshuka
On first smell, you can pull out the tomatoey base. It is not like a tomato puree, you can tell that these tomatoes were crushed in the kitchen. Additionally, you can definitely see a substantial amount of vegetables, ranging from onions to capsicums. I personally wished for a few chunks of meat to be inside the shakshuka, but to each their own. The dish looked slightly watery, but that is to be expected.
When I took the first bite, the most predominant taste would be the sour notes from the tomatoes. You can also taste a hint of saltiness from the feta cheese, to which I feel is an amazing combination👏. At the same time, the sweet notes from the vegetables helps to balance the flavours a bit better, but do not that there will be a hint of spice. It isn't potent, but you would definitely be able to tell that it is spicy. When you mix the egg into the shakshuka, the overall texture becomes creamier and more substantial. Personally for me, since I am not used to eating dishes with a predominantly sour taste, I found it hard to finish the entire portion. So if you are like me, do share this dish with a couple of friends
